Girls Soccer Cruise to 3-0 Win Over Sacred Heart

1 min read

This past Thursday night, the girls soccer team cruised to a 3-0 win over the Sacred Heart Gators.

In just the second game of the season, the M-A team chemistry was already in full swing. The Bears started the game with intensity, scoring in the first five minutes courtesy of sophomore winger Alessia Bolanos.

The Bears continued to put pressure on the Gators through the first 25 minutes. The Gators tried to fend off the persistent M-A attack, but with five minutes left in the half, junior Camille Melcher scored a rocket after a beautiful team build-up play. The bears continued to dominate the possession through the rest of the first half, and had a firm 2-0 lead going into halftime.

The Gators appeared to be hungry at the beginning of the second half with new intensity, but the Bears held strong on defense, shutting down any attack attempted by the Sacred Heart forwards. As the second half continued, the Gators started to realize that a win might be out of sight, and slowly fell out of the game.

The Bears utilized their speed on the counterattack, getting the ball out wide and forcing the Gators to give up some corners. Despite the 2-0 lead, the Bears continued their attack, determined to get another goal.

The Bears continued their dominance in the second half and won two free kicks, but they were unable to find the back of the net. With just eight minutes left in the game, junior Georgia Auerbach put the final nail in the coffin for the Gators.

When Coach Jason Luce was asked about the team’s performance he replied, “I’m super happy with the team’s performance tonight. Against a rival, we rose to the occasion and that’s always a great feeling.”

Auerbuch was also asked about the team’s performance and said, “I felt good because we got a good win and used teamwork to break down Sacred Heart’s defensive structure”.

The team morale and confidence is at an all time high for the Bears as they look to keep a perfect season this coming week.
