On Tuesday night, M-A held the annual 8th Grade Info Night, giving parents and the incoming freshman class of 2024 a glimpse into what M-A has to offer.

As the crowd filtered into the PAC, the M-A Orchestra gave a live performance and highlighted the different performing and visual arts that are offered at MA. The night began with an introduction by Principle Simone Rick-Kennel who talked about the importance of high school. “We think parent night is a good look into a glimpse of what M-A has to offer. We cover everything from academic programs to extracurriculars to hearing directly from students about their experiences,” said Kennel. She was followed by Athletic Director Steven Kryger who talked about the vast amount of sports MA participates in. Following that was a student panel who talked about their experiences in High School.

Senior Valentina Rivera, one of the students on the panel, spoke about her journey coming to M-A. “I went to middle school in Columbia, and when I came here my freshman year I knew no English. However, M-A embraced me and I was able to learn English well enough that I am currently taking AP Literature and Composition.” The other students on the panel, seniors Mia Nelson and Bryan Escatel-Jiminez, and junior Sathvik Nori all talked about the different extracurriculars and academic classes they could partake in at M-A.

Attending parent Jessica Lanier said she heard “really good things from everybody about M-A”. Similarly, Mickey Kertsz said he heard “great things from friends and neighbors and I’m really excited to see what this school has to offer.”

After the student panel, the attendees separated into groups, rotating throughout the campus to get a more in-depth look into each department. Parents had the opportunity to ask questions after presentations by all of the departments (including Science, Math, English, History, and World Language). There were also presentations about career technical education (CTE) and visual performing arts (VPA) classes.
