Boys Lacrosse looking to build momentum heading into playoffs

1 min read

After an 18-11 win over Mountain View High School on the 24th of April, the boys lacrosse team fought hard but came up just short in a loss to rivals Palo Alto (Paly) by a score of 12-11. They split the season series with the Vikings after winning 9-8 on March 15th. With just two games remaining, the Bears have an impressive record of 12-5 and looking to get back in the win column and gain momentum heading into the playoffs.

The Bears had some very impressive and important wins throughout the regular season. These include an 8-7 win over Serra, the Palo Alto victory mentioned before, and a 13-11 victory over Burlingame. The team recently went to Arizona and were able to pick up a quality win while building chemistry. Senior Andrew Ojeda, a key contributor and leader on this year’s team talked about the trip in more detail saying, “Going out of state with the varsity team has always been a great experience for the team. We always come back with more chemistry and hunger.” Senior forward Joey Lohmann added. “We played in dust storms, heat waves, and against two teams in the top 10 of high school lacrosse teams across Arizona. There also seems to be a better relationship between the juniors and seniors this year than last, which makes for a great team atmosphere.”

Ojeda also discussed how the Bears are looking to build momentum heading into the playoffs. He said, “We have a few more games left in the season that we hope to win so we can face our biggest rivals in this league, Palo Alto, in the championship. Lohmann explained the keys to a successful and deep playoff run saying, “I think it will take more communication and just the belief that we can go all the way. We have more recently suffered some losses to teams we beat before, so I think it is important to remind ourselves that any team can beat another in this league. It will depend on who wants it more at the end of the day, and with crosstown rivals Paly, it seems like it will be a good test for this program to bounce back.”

Two games remain in the regular season for the Bears. One of them is today against Carlmont and the Bears finish the regular season at home against Los Gatos. Come cheer on the Bears as they look to build a winning streak heading into the playoffs.
