Volleyball Mid-Season Recap

1 min read

After finishing a successful season last fall, the girls varsity volleyball team returns to the court for the 2015 season. New head and assistant coaches, Fletcher Anderson and Lauryn Anderson, are anticipating another successful season for the Bears.

Anderson admitted that “there is a big target on our backs this year because of the way we finished last season. There are a lot of teams who are going to make it their goal to beat us.” The biggest rivals for the team this year remain as they usually are: Sequoia, Carlmont, and Menlo. The Bears have been CCS champions multiple times in the past few years and just last year received second place in the NorCal Championship.

The key players this season are senior Leanna Collins, juniors Kirby Knapp, Jacqueline DiSanto, and Eliza Grover, and sophomore Lauren Heller. Leanna Collins recently committed to playing for UC San Diego next year.

The team started out the preseason with three tough losses against Valley Christian, St. Ignatius, and Presentation. However, the team started to click during the Menlo Invitational, winning first place after beating Palo Alto in the semifinals and Menlo in the finals. Since the tournament, the Bears have maintained a perfect record in the regular season, winning all nine games.

The Bears have already accomplished big goals for the season by winning crucial games against Menlo, Sequoia, and Carlmont. However, the season is not nearly finished. M-A still has seven games remaining, facing off against many rivals for the second time this season. Both coaches hope to “get better each and every day, be the CCS champions, and make it to the state finals.”
