Girls Varsity Basketball Beats Carlmont on Senior Night

1 min read

On Friday night, M-A girls varsity basketball team defeated Carlmont High School, 58-32.

The coaches strayed from the usual starting line up and played seniors, Delilah Kline, Sally Carlson, Jaimie Kirkpatrick, and Annalisa Crowe at the start of the game to recognize them on Senior Night.

The Bears trailed the Carlmont Scots at the end of the first quarter 8-9, however, they picked up the pace and intensity in the second quarter. The Bears’ quick offense and tough front helped the Bears score 20 points and secure the 28-22 lead into half time.

The Lady Bears came out even stronger the second half of the game, scoring 15 points each quarter. Sophomore Greer Hoyem and junior Ofa Sili led the Bears with 12 points each. The Bears maintained an aggressive defense and the Scots struggled to score, securing only 10 points in the second half.

The seniors came out strong on their Senior Night; Kline, Kirkpatrick, and Crowe all scored 3 pointers. Carlson had four assists and six rebounds.

Carlson shared how “Everyone fought hard to win our last home quad game and all the girls worked really hard to make it special for the seniors. The most exciting part of the game for me was Mele Kailahi’s shot to end the first half, we had a little bit of a slow first half and the shot got everyone excited and it helped give us momentum going into the second half. I have made some of my best friends on this team and made great memories. I knew Senior Night was going to be special no matter what and my teammates put a ton of work into it. It was better than I ever could have imagined.”

The Bears team effort on Senior Night secured their 58-32 victory against the Carlmont Scots. Be sure to support the Lady Bears when they travel to Burlingame High School this Tuesday, 2/9, at 5 p.m.
