Girls Tennis Preview: “Serve’s Up!”

1 min read

With its first scrimmage against Menlo in the bag, the M-A girls tennis team is ready to continue its domination over the sport. Coming off of the Peninsula Athletic League (PAL) championship title, as well as making it to quarterfinals in Central Coast Section (CCS), the girls are looking to win league for another year in a row and make a push for the postseason.

With coaches Tom Sorenson, Carlos Aguilar, and Brian Laporte, the Bears have dominated the league and are currently on a 28-0 run against other schools in PAL. Junior Lanie Van Linge said, “We aren’t feeling too much pressure from PAL. We are the top team [in PAL], and really just focus on tournaments and the postseason.”

Senior Natasha Auer, who plays doubles, commented on losing a key senior last year: “We lost Sally Carlson, who played doubles alongside Julia Chang. They were our number one doubles team last year. It’s going to be difficult to replace Sally, but I am confident that a number of people can fill her spot.”

The team has been fortunate in that most of its starting players were not seniors last year, allowing most of the key players to continue contributing to the team. With a tournament in Fresno this weekend, the Bears are looking to start the season strong, and anticipate another great year.
