BREAKING NEWS: Downed Power Pole Cancels School Monday

1 min read

M-A administrators called students’ homes this morning to announce that school has been canceled for the day. Principal Kennel cited a problem with restoring power as the cause. On Sunday a pre-planned shutdown by PG&E was met with complications concerning a damaged power line and five breakers that kept power off at M-A well past the original 3 p.m. deadline. Plant manager Brien Oliver worked with PG&E through the night until 12:00 a.m. hoping to get power restored in time for classes Monday. Unfortunately these efforts were met with further complications– a high voltage expert from Los Banos and his workers did not arrive until 6:00 a.m. Monday to continue work. Ultimately Principal Kennel had to make the call to cancel classes for the day.

Hi! I'm Miranda Simes, and I'm a senior at M-A. This will be my third year on staff, and I’m excited to take on the role of editor as well as continue to inform the community.

Though journalism, I am eager to generate discussion with my peers about a diversity of topics. With its ability to question authority and give voice to the silenced, I consider journalism to be a truly powerful medium of expression.

I also enjoy representing M-A on the track and soccer teams, as well as hiking, finding new music, and baking in my spare time.
