Boys Golf Swinging For Success

1 min read

This year the M-A boys golf team set their goals high for the 2016 season, with a record number of golfers (15) on the roster. They’re gearing up for another great season, after a series of successes. The team hopes to capture their fifth Peninsula Athletic League (PAL) Championship Title, with multiple talented freshman joining the team.

The Bears hope to follow up the girls golf team’s successful 7-2 season with another winning season. Senior co-captain Andrew Dignum said that the team plans on being “a lot more competitive” this year by practicing “six hours per week.”

For the past three years, the Bear’s rival, Carlmont High School, has claimed the PAL title. M-A coach Jennifer Taylor-Smith believes this year the Bears could take the title with the additional talent of the younger players. The coaches believe that there is a lot of potential on the team, and that additional practice will help them move towards their goals of being PAL Champions.

Taylor-Smith is especially excited for the freshman joining the team. She explained that freshman Jonathan Dicks has played in “numerous tournaments” and she expects him to be “one of the top two players this year.” Another freshman Andrew Wilkins, has been developing his skills, and hopes to be in M-A’s top 6 for several matches.

Taylor-Smith explains that regardless of the Bears preformance this year, having a lot a strong freshman bones well for future seasons. This year, the team has been invited to tournaments that world-class golfers, including Jordan Spieth, played at when they were in high school. Taylor-Smith believes that 2016 will be a “very competitive year” for our team.

The Bears won their first match on Tuesday, March 1. Be sure to check back for more updates on the boys golf team’s exciting season.
