Boys Basketball Maintains Flawless 2016 PAL Record

1 min read

The M-A boys varsity team matched up with Woodside High School on Thursday, February 11 in their final Pacific Athletic League (PAL) game. A team effort contributed to a 82-38 M-A victory. The Bears are 22-2 overall and 12-0 in PAL-South.

The Bears established a strong rhythm during the first quarter and within three minutes the Wildcats called a timeout, trailing 2-8. M-A continued to shut down Woodside’s offense and capitalized their offense, ending the quarter 25-8.

Woodside continued to struggle to keep up with M-A’s quick paced game and fast breaks during the second quarter. The Bears sealed their victory when junior Eric Norton stole the ball and drove cross court to dunk the ball seconds after Christian Fioretti scored on a fast break. At the end of the first half, M-A led 51-22.

The Bears continued to play tight defense, holding the Wildcats to only 16 points in the second half. On offense M-A continued to sink threes with contributions from C. Fioretti, Lucas Fioretti, Kai Winterling, and Bradley Stillman. M-A won the game 82-38.

C. Fioretti led the Bears with 19 points, 10 assists, 3 steals, and 3 rebounds. L. Fioretti added six threes (85.7% from three-point range), 4 steals, and 4 rebounds. Blake Henry contributed 10 points, while Norton, Stillman, Bobby Macdonald, and Winterling scored 6 points each and Joe Tripaldi added 5 points.

M-A head coach Mike Molieri expressed his admiration for his seven seniors, Tim Andersen, Lucas Fioretti, Christian Fioretti, Reed Fratt, Blake Henry, Kailen Kershner, and Bobby Macdonald, and the commitment they’ve shown.

He also explained the team’s goals to win the PAL tournament and to maintain a high level of play in every post-season game. He concluded that the Bears will likely make the Open Division of Central Coast Section (CCS) for the first time in M-A history.

The Bears take the number one seed in the PAL-South for the PAL tournament. Be sure to support the Bears during their post-season games starting Wednesday!
