The boys varsity basketball team topped Milpitas High School 60 to 36 on Saturday, December 26.

After loosing to the Trojans last year in the second round of Central Coast Section (CCS) playoffs 43-36, the Bears came out with vengeance, leading 14-9 after the first quarter.

M-A continued to control the pace of game by pushing the ball up the court and capitalizing on offense. The Trojans struggled to guard M-A’s centers, Blake Henry and Reed Fratt, allowing the Bears to increase their lead to 33-18 at half.

The Bears’ quick-paced offense continued to be unstoppable in the third quarter. Guards Christian Fioretti, Lucas Fioretti, Kai Winterling, and Eric Norton played dynamically, repeatedly driving in for lay ups and setting screens to give M-A a comfortable lead, 47-28, going into the fourth quarter.

M-A locked down on defense during the final quarter, allowing Milpitas only 8 points. The Bears played well on both ends of the court, constantly capitalizing on offensive, rebounds, and defense. They wrapped up the game, easily winning 60-36.

Senior C. Fioretti concluded, “It meant a lot to beat Milpitas after they knocked us out [of CCS] last year. Getting the win was huge for us, and we made sure to let our seniors from last year know as well. We didn’t play our best, but this win shows how good we can be. We didn’t shoot the ball as well as we usually do, but still won by 24. We have a big game on Friday at Bellarmine, which is now our focus. They have been playing really well so far this year, so we need to bring our A-game. We’ll spend the whole week preparing for the game. I definitely do like our chances though, I have a lot of confidence in our team.”

Be sure to support the Bears as they travel to Bellarmine on Friday, December 11 at 7:30 for their next match.
